xoult is a free feed of new arXiv papers, ranked for each reader. It is built to need as little about you as possible. This page says exactly what it keeps, why, and how to remove it.
What xoult stores
- The arXiv categories you pick.
- Which papers you were shown, opened, saved or marked "not for me", with the time and the version of the ranking that showed them.
- The authors you follow, if any. Nobody else can see them.
- When you last visited, so inactive anonymous profiles can be deleted.
- If you sign in with Google: your Google account id and your email address. The email is shown only on your Settings page.
What xoult does not store
Your name, password, IP address, browser or device details, or any Google token. There are no ads, analytics or tracking scripts, and nothing is sold or shared for marketing.
Why
- To rank your feed: what you save and dismiss decides what you see next.
- To improve the ranking for everyone, using totals such as how often shown papers are saved, compared between ranking versions. These totals are public at /stats and contain nothing about any one person.
Cookies
One cookie, xoult_session, which holds a random id that identifies your
profile. It is required for the site to work, can't be read by page scripts, and is
signed so it can't be forged. A layout preference may also be kept in your browser's
local storage; it never leaves your device.
Who else handles data
- Supabase stores the database (Mumbai, India).
- Render runs the website (servers currently in the United States), behind Cloudflare. Like any host, they may keep short-lived network logs under their own policies.
- Google handles sign-in, only if you choose to use it.
- Sentry receives error reports, with personal data turned off.
- The AI services that write paper summaries receive only paper titles and abstracts, never anything about readers.
- When you import your own papers, the ORCID iD or name you type is sent to OpenAlex, an open index of research papers, to find them, and the papers are fetched from arXiv. Both requests come from xoult's server, not your browser, and the iD or name isn't stored.
How long it is kept
- Anonymous profiles that never saved a paper: deleted 30 days after the last visit.
- Records of which papers you were shown: at most 90 days.
- Everything else: until you delete your account.
Your choices
From Settings you can change your categories, download everything xoult holds about you as a file, or delete your account and all of its data at once. Deletion is immediate and can't be undone.
Children
xoult is meant for researchers and students aged 18 or over, and isn't intended for children.
